@リア・クレイン and I were on the stage at @kendalmountainfilmfestival and got asked why we aren't scared? Well I do get scared a lot, but couldn't really answer how I manage to overcome my fear. I thought about it quite a lot the last days and figured out that in order to not be scared, no matter if highball bouldering, deep water soloing or multipitch climbing, I need to manage to control my emotions. And to do so (and this may sound a bit crazy) I talk to myself. Sometimes out loud and sometimes just in my head. I would go: 'You'll be fine, next move, ok, the foot stays on, it's ok, next move, got it, alright, everything is ok, one more,....' And like that I climb higher and higher move after move. It's about being 100% focused on the climbing.
