Former Costa Rica defender Gabriel Badilla has sadly passed away, aged 32. The captain of the Costa Rican national team that played in the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2001 was participating in a local marathon known as Lindora Run. Shortly before reaching the finish line, Badilla collapsed. After a long attempt to revive him, he was declared dead due to a cardiorespiratory arrest. Badilla played in the 2006 FIFA World Cup and was part of the Deportivo Saprissa team that finished third at the FIFA Club World Cup 2005.
