45 years ago. This Funk Changed It All. As you look throughout entertainment history and life in general you notice a pattern of black people's ability to take Lemons to create Lemonade. I consider #TARGO more the first reality show than a master class in funk. For those that responded to the @qls @birbigs episode about #DontThinkTwice (why do all of our favorite artists sabotage their own bright futures? Take decades making music. Cancelling shows. 4 hours late. Mired in crime. Or sometimes death. Or dead broke. I feel funny praising this album because at the heart of it is funk that will serve as a blueprint for the world. But that heart is also a dark heart. This album is the joy we get watching Kanye have a meltdown --something not a laughing matter. This album is us recording a fatal car accident for "oohs and ahhs" on social media--not entertaining. This album is all the reality bafoonery we can muster for our amusement yet not realizing how it sets us back. Sly mastered perfect pop songwriting and musicianship and conquered #Woodstock. He had the ultimate alley oop set up to deliver on the promise. This album is one man's dark cry for help.....and all we did was dance. #TheresARiotGoinOn
