Dusting off my antique dip pens (specifically the amazing Warren Penny Pen) for some overdue calligraphy practice. I had a recent conversation with a fellow creative who without knowing shifted a paradigm by something profound and beautiful that she shared: "Don't ever think for a second that you owe me anything. Your opportunities are based on your own merits and gifts, not based on me or anyone else." In a world where I'll-scratch-your-back-if-you-scratch-mine, entitlement, politics and score cards seem so prevalent, I realized how one act of kindness, or gift of empowerment and freedom, or simply a positive word are so much more powerful. There is a saying about how the greatest gift we can give to the world is by learning to love who we are first. I think that's so true. Have you ever noticed that when you're around those are free within themselves, it allows you to feel free to be yourself too? Here's to more of that. ? •
