I had the privilege of learning about the Jacaranda Foundation from my sister friend Kirsten Vangsness. She is a donor and received an honor this Sunday from them, for the resources she has contributed and awareness she has raised. Ricki Lake (whom I've had the privilege of working with on my TV show Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) received an honor as well the same night for being a founding contributor to the school. The HIV/AIDS epidemic has left over 1 million children orphaned in Malawi. Parentless and without access to regular meals, healthcare and education. I had the privilege of meeting the Jacaranda Foundations founder, Marie Da Silva, Sunday night at the fundraiser my friends were honored at. Her school gives over 400 orphaned children in Malawi access to nutrition, healthcare and education. Not to mention the libraries they have placed in the community to promote Literacy. We don't all have a lot to spare but even a small amount makes a difference. And small amounts can collectively change a child's life. About $250 provides annual tuition for a child.
