'Hanya Yanagihara is breaking my heart one page at a time. This book is dense. 720 pages. You have to be prepared to welcome these characters into your life for the best part of a month (or 2, I’m a slow reader). But you won’t want to finish it. It’s a story of four male friends set in modern day New York. It goes deep on the expectation of friendship: what we want and need from each of the people we surround ourselves with. She also discusses what it means to be a good friend and the idea that you’re meant to see and react to your friends how they want to be seen. It’s nice to read about deep relationships, but not necessarily romantic ones. The last book that made lumps form in my throat and tears spill on the tube was 'A Fine Balance' by Rohinton Mistry. I have 50 more pages to go and I’m literally savouring every last one. Also the crying in public is getting embarrassing so I might have to wait for Sunday morning at home to finish it.'
