In Berlin with a piece of the Berlin wall in my hand, the sense of going backwards still heavy in my heart. My mum and grandparent's lifetimes were defined by the the battle of values creating divisions that almost destroyed their entire society. I have my grandfather's WW1 diaries, I have my mum's stories of life as a child during WW2. Today I think of them, and what words of wisdom they might have as metaphorical walls become real ones.
