Babile Elephant Sanctuary is under severe threat form expansion of farming activities in the park, herders, poachers and human elephant conflict. Due to the thick vegetation and political instability this isolated elephant population is extremely tricky to protect. Born Free Foundation are working hard to halt the poaching and other threats facing the elephants residing there, having suffered a dramatic 80% decline in the last three decades. The ECF is funding the training of 32 Babile scouts and the salary of a newly recruited conservation officer aiming to increase active law enforcement in the sanctuary.
