The Voting Rights Act was signed into law by President Lyndon Johnson August 6, 1965. It's purpose was to overcome legal barriers at the state and local levels that kept black people from voting. Today I feel a sense of accomplishment because I walked into a library and exercised my right to vote. A right that was fought for me by many people before me. Everyone in this country should vote, but If you're a minority in this country you owe it to all the people that came before you that fought and even lost their lives for the right to vote. #govote #carpediem
