"Hmmm, this looks like a good spot to anchor up!" ⚓️ - You can't really blame Dutch sea captain Dirk Hartog for choosing to land on this lovely island off @westernaustralia 400 years ago - it's rather picturesque! It's now named @DirkHartogIsland in his honour, and today marks the 400th anniversary of this first European landing on Australian soil (or sand, in this instance). You'll find this island in the World Heritage-listed Shark Bay area off @australiascoralcoast, and not only is it packed with 400 years of colonial history, it's also a playground for humpback whales, loggerhead turtles and loads of other marine and bird life. #sharkbay1616 Photo: @elisehassey & @summersite #islandsofoz
