One of the most challenging parts of being on tour is getting enough sleep. I've lived on a tour bus for 5 months this year and 5-8 months for the past 25 years. it's way better than sleeping in hotel rooms when you're moving quickly, because there are no early wake up calls, taxis to the airport, checking in guitars and luggage, metal detectors, uncomfortable airplane naps, switching airplanes in busy airports, waiting for luggage, taxis to soundcheck etc. you get my point. On the bus after show you hang out and tell stories, eat a meal, talk about life, politics, family, how to make the concert experience better for everyone who comes, have a band and crew meeting to deal with tech issues or resolve some occasional hurt feelings before they become a huge problem and do a lot of bullshitting with each other which leads to tons of laughter every night and late night relationship check-in talks or sharing life dreams with Sara. Then you curl up in your bed with a bunch of layers on (last night was very cold-heater doesn't work on this bus) and the bus takes off and rocks you to sleep through the night. When you wake up, you're exactly-precisely where you need to be, ten steps from the entrance to the next venue. Even still, sometimes I have a hard time falling asleep. Sara wears these kick ass eye shades that knock her out, but they rub on my eyelashes when I put them on and I wake up in the middle of the night feeling like I'm being attacked by bats so I just rock it freestyle. I rarely feel like I get enough sleep and I don't drink caffeine at all, but enthusiasm gets me through everyday even on days when I'm feeling cooked. Waking up next to my wife and best friend is awesome, but it doesn't happen everyday on tour because she has a life and career outside of my tour schedule so when it does it's even more special and I make sure to cherish every second...especially on days when the bus is freezing! #soulrocker #bus #buslife #tour #europe #music #england #bristol #london #musician #sleep #lifeisbetterwithyou @saraluadesigns @saraluaagah #eyeshades #consciousmusic #heart #beats #sleeping Share your sleep tips in the comments!
