Photo of the Day! @timhumphreys got creative with #HERO5 Night-Lapse shooting @squawalpine. How he nailed this banger: "I love going out and shooting #GoPro photos at night. It's all about how much light you let into the sensor and any setting adjustment has a dramatic effect." -------------------------------------------------- For this shot, I used a GoPro HERO5 Black, a tripod, a battery pack, and a flashlight. I usually start with a 30sec exposure, iso 800, and 3000k white balance test and adjust from there because those settings tend to look really good for exposing the stars when there's not much ambient light. If there are more light sources than the stars and moon, I'll shorten my exposure, or change the ISO to 400, but the less ISO, the less stars. WB at 3000k seems to make lights look more white at night. -----------------------------------------------------I shot a few night photos and tried to draw the letters with my flashlight. This one took me about 15 attempts because I'm trying to draw letters backwards with a flashlight in the dark...know how it is. It helps having a remote to trigger the camera for the light painting. Once I got the light painting right, I changed my camera over to night lapse (carefully without moving the camera position) and rolled the night lapse with the battery pack tethered to power so it could run all night long. ---------------------------------------------------- There are a few ways to edit this compilation, but it all boils down to taking the one best lightpainted photo and stack it on top of all your night photos with a blend mode of 'Lighten'. This can be done in Photoshop, or other standalone software like what I used to give the stars more of a tailed comet effect. This image is basically 600 photos stacked into one. I'm not responsible if you leave your gopro out all night and someone steals it. Hide it somewhere cutty, turn all the camera LED's off, and cover any lights on the battery pack with tape. #Nightphotography #SquawValley #PhotoOfTheDay #InstaPhoto #NightLapse #AdvancedPhotography #TimHumphries #GoProAthlete #AllOfTheLights #BangerPhoto
