Our next weekly content creator is the talented @littlecoal. Check out his story here: "I've had an interest in photography since I was in junior high. I remember seeing prints of images my uncle had taken where, by using a double exposure on a film camera, he was playing chess with himself. The creativity in those images peeked my interest in the medium. My mother always allowed me to use her film cameras and never complained as I used roll after roll exploring the world around me. A black and white photography class in high school cemented my love for photography as we worked in a dark room to create our final prints. I've been shooting ever since, but @Instagram provided an outlet for that creativity like no other.
Instagram has provided many opportunities for me, beginning with the incredible friendships I have formed with people both locally and throughout the world. It's the one social media app that fosters authentic friendships when the user opens up and shares their true feelings through their posts and captions. I recently started my 21 year of teaching 4th grade, but the opportunities I have had over the last few years to work with incredible brands from around the world is something I am humbled by.
My children are a constant source of inspiration for me and they often end up in many of my images, as we are frequently out exploring local parks after their school day or on the weekends.
Over the last twenty years, I would often go to the photography section of the library and check out portfolios from incredible photographers from around the world for inspiration. While the destinations in many of the images were not available to me at the time, the ideas of composition, mood, story telling and light were things that I would take and attempt to apply to my own work.
I wish I was able to list beautiful destinations from around the world that I have traveled to, but the reality is that I only got my passport within the last year and those empty pages are begging to be filled! As a married father of three and a school teacher, international travel has taken a back seat to other obligations, but I am ready to go and I look forward to sharing experiences!"
