We’re fawning over our endangered Eld’s deer fawn! She was born Sunday afternoon at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute. Both the fawn and her mom Sienna appear to be doing well. This is Sienna’s second fawn and the first for the fawn’s father Duffy. The fawn is nursing and got her first critical milk, known as colostrum. Keepers will weigh her several times a week to ensure that she is growing normally. Since 1980, 145 Eld’s deer fawns have been born at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute. #WeSaveSpecies #SCBI
