Because life after GIRLS must go on, I have a message for current or aspiring college students. As most of you know, the domestic issue that is the single most important one to me is Education. And what drives me crazy is that people talk about college like it isn’t INSANELY stressful and hard to get in — and even harder to stay there once you do. There are financial restrictions, logistical restrictions, home life stress…and millions of other reasons that students don’t make it to graduation. So, in an effort to make this issue less damaging to people, I’ve been looking for a solution to recommend. I found one!! I’ve been talking to the First Lady’s office (perks!) to learn about UP NEXT. Basically, how it works, is you text ‘college’ to 44044, and they will be the angel on your shoulder throughout the year. They can help you with paperwork (like FAFSA) deadline reminders, help put you in touch with an advisor who will actually care about you, and even give you tips for midterms. There is nothing wrong with asking for help. It’s a real test of character, and letting pride take control will always work against the goals we set.
