In this photograph taken on Sept. 1, the James Webb Space Telescope Pathfinder structure has been configured for testing at Johnson Space Center. The Pathfinder is a test version of the structure that supports the telescope.

The dummy Aft Optical System (AOS) is visible in the center of the primary mirror segments. The AOS is the upright piece at the center of the primary mirror - it contains the telescope's tertiary and fine steering mirrors.

The James Webb Space Telescope is the scientific successor to NASA's Hubble Space Telescope. It will be the most powerful space telescope ever built. Webb is an international project led by NASA with its partners, the European Space Agency and the Canadian Space Agency.
