This is one of my favorite photos in my book... #Evolution a Visual Record, it is in the amazing #SternbergMuseum in my hometown of #Hays,Ks. The discovery of the vast remains of the Western Interior Seaway, during the #Cretaceous a shallow ocean ranged from Mexico the what is now Northern Canada. The fossils of marine life, giant sharks, huge plesiosaur, fish and this delicate Unitaccrinus socialis, a crinoid, a relative of the modern sea urchins and star fish collected in the remains of the #KansasSea. The size of the creatures is some place between a tennis ball and a baseball, it is covered in the same beautiful pattern for the length and breadth of the #fossil...this photo is about one 1/8 of the entire specimen, which in its entirety is about 5 x4 feet. When you see remains like these it is not hard to figure out where #Hollywood gets some it's ideas, think Matrix. #Phaidon #EvolutionaVisualRecord
