In 1953, an American team was attempting the first ascent of K2, the world’s second highest peak. Eddie designed a down mountaineering parka for them, the Kara Koram. Expedition Leader Charles Houston called the parka “The finest piece of high altitude equipment we have ever seen.” Their legacy, and the Kara Koram parka, made Eddie Bauer America’s premiere expedition outfitter during the Golden Age of Himalayan Mountaineering.
