Back at SXSW Film Festival 2010, after a screening of Aaron Katz's film Cold Weather (which I'm in), I met a director named Barry Jenkins, who was very warm and complimentary toward my performance. I was touched by his encouraging words and went home and immediately netflixed his movie Medicine for Melancholy (this is back when you had to wait for the Netflix envelope). I fell in love with that movie for much of the same reasons I connected with Andrew Haigh's film Weekend: two near-strangers finding intimacy in unexpected moments. Last night, I had the great pleasure of attending an early screening of Barry's brilliant new film Moonlight. I cannot stress enough how necessary I think this film is.
