I woke up this morning and spent time reading about the lives of #keithlamontscott and #terencecrutcher . There are too many videos (even one is too many) of black men, and women, losing their lives in situations that never should have ended in gunfire. I think it's important to stand witness to and absorb the full weight of the horror and injustice of these moments, but I think it's just as important to absorb the beauty and truth of these people's lives as well. It allows us to more fully see these men and women, their life's work, their interests, their passions, their families and all of the promise their lives held- and be reminded that lives like these are not intended to be reduced to police photos and videos that go viral and then fade away, unanswered and without consequence.
Getting a more fully rounded idea of their lives makes the feelings of anger and fear and sadness more profound and pointed, but I think that's a feeling that's important to have and to hold on to. Being in touch with the full depth of those feelings reminds me to listen more, pay closer attention, learn, speak up, stand up and use whatever space I have to echo the sound of support, rather than silence. #keithlamontscott matters #terencecrutcher matters #blacklivesmatter
