HT: Aston Villa 1-0 Brentford - Jonathan Kodjia’s first goal in claret and blue gave Villa a deserved half-time lead against Brentford at Villa Park. Villa opened in the same positive mood they had displayed against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, and were close to taking a fifth-minute lead. Ross McCormack’s pass sent Rudy Gestede racing through the middle and when he laid the ball off to Kodjia on the right, the new boy unleashed a fierce angled drive which was tipped away by keeper Daniel Bentley for a corner. But it wasn’t long before Kodjia made an impact. Accepting a pass from Mile Jedinak in the 18th minute, he cut inside from the right and sent a superb left-foot drive into the top corner from just inside the penalty area. Gestede was also close on a couple of occasions, with a low shot that was saved by Bentley and a flying header which went wide. The visitors enjoyed more possession as they interval approached, although Pierluigi Gollini’s only serious task was to held a stringing low shot from Scott Hogan. #AVFC #AstonVilla #AstonVillaFC #FightLikeLions ????
