I remember this day, 15 years ago, just like it was yesterday. I was showering, getting ready for school, when my mother started yelling and crying. I get out to see what was happening to the surreal movie like images on the TV. With my mother crying I knew immediately it was no movie. I was hurt and devastated thinking, what if I lived in NYC and one of my family members was involved in this awful event?
Seeing how everyone came together, and how PEOPLE were helping PEOPLE, really taught me that this country, even with all of its own oppressions and controversies, was able to overcome in a desperate time of need. There's always room for improvement, I'm told this everyday as an athlete, but it's true in all aspects of life. To see the strength of the country coming together on that fateful day, putting everything aside, really made me proud to be an American. We will never forget this day.
