HT: Aston Villa 0-0 Nottingham Forest - Villa dominated the first half against Nottingham Forest but were unable to make a breakthough. Roberto Di Matteo’ s men started brightly, enjoying plenty of possession in the opening 15 minutes, although all they had to show for their early endeavours was a fierce Ross McCormack free-kick which thudded into Forest’s defensive wall and a speculative Gary Gardner effort which was well over. But Jordan Ayew wasn’t far away in the 18th minute when his 25-yard free-kick only just cleared the bar after Gary Gardner had been brought down. A goal looked certain on 33 minutes when debut boy Jonathan Kodjia drove hard and low across the face of goal, only for McCormack to fire against the far post. And a minute later Aly Cissokho’s cross from the left was nudged wide by Ayew. Kodjia was unlucky not to open the scoring on 43 minutes, his downward header being scooped away by Vladimir Stojkovic after Jack Grealish’s fine pass and Ayew’s deep cross had created the chance. #AVFC #NFFC #AstonVilla #AstonVillaFC
