Mike Kelley was an American artist and self-proclaimed “blue-collar anarchist" whose work involved drawings, collage, performance and video. Kelley's "Riddle of the Sphinx," is a knitted afghan, covering stainless-steel bowls, along with a print of Mount Fuji. The piece embodies many of Kelley’s themes and, to some extent, sums up his initial post-performance project "Half a Man", in which he embraced dejection as the antithesis of masculine authority.
