At the end of July my Grandad asked the Doctor how long he had to live. They were reluctant to give him an estimate but he pushed for an answer. They told him 2-4 weeks. His reply "Right thats fine. I'll see the Olympics" He counted down the days until I competed on the 17th-20th August. He had told everyone that his granddaughter was competing and the nurses decorated his room with Union Jacks and 'Come On Lynsey' banners. He got the nurses to wheel him through to the lounge at 1.15am to watch my semi final and final with a G&T. I managed to give him a shout out on the BBC after my semi final. Sometimes its easy to forget how much joy my performances and journey can give to other people. When I'm out on the track all I think of is me....but back home it means so much to others. In the back of my head I wanted to do him proud...I wish I could have brought him a medal home. After my race in Berlin on Saturday, I asked my mum how he was and she said it wasnt good. I changed my flight to fly to Glasgow yesterday and went straight to the hospital to see him. He still had the banners and flags up. He may not have been able to talk back but his face lit up when he heard my voice and saw my face. He even managed to squeeze my hand. 2 hours later we were driving home to Edinburgh and got a call to say he had passed away. I honestly believe he held on not just to see my season out but also for me to get there and see him yesterday. So never underestimate the positive effect what you are doing in your life can have on someone else and the joy it can bring...and dont forget to spend time with your family. Family is everything. ❤ Ill do my best to get a medal in 4 years and I know you'll be watching Papa.
