My name is ShiShi Rose. I am an activist, a writer, and a lover of music. Growing up as a black girl I heard a lot of "You'll never make it by doing that", "Black people can't do that", and "Girls can't do that". As I grew up this was applied to everything from my personal fashion style, to how I wore my hair, music I listened to, who I was friends with, jobs I took, schools I considered applying for, and hobbies I was interested in. Everything. But somewhere along the line, as I grew in my activism and my love for myself as a black woman, I decided I was tired of being told what I could or could not do or achieve just because of the body that I was born in. I realized that other people do not have chains on my aspirations and its okay to dream even if other people tell me that the things I want will never happen. So I moved to New York because I heard this is a place where dreams can come true. But really its not ever about succeeding in the thing and proving anyone wrong. No, I think that puts too much pressure on us to harvest what we are passionate about and love what makes us happy. Its about not letting anyone stop you even tho they are oppressing you. It's about finding joy and knowing that you CAN do whatever it is you want to do no matter how hard it may be. I want all girls but especially black and brown girls that are knocked down so much to be able to grow up with the message in their head that They Can and that They Are capable. We all have so much to offer. Never stop dreaming all my Sisters, and I mean us all not just our Cisters. @shishi.rose ????
