With an impressive display, Silvia Veloso led Mozambique to a 55-36 win against Tunisia, while hosts Egypt hammered debutants Madagascar. Unlike Saturday’s loss against Mali, Mozambique trailed 7-0 in the opening five minutes, but cut the deficit to 23-22 at the break. Mozambique grew in confidence in the second half, and entered the final ten minutes leading 35-30. With 10 points from Veloso in the first four minutes of the final quarter, Mozambique took control of the game and secured their first win in the tournament. The 1.72m shooting guard led the way for Mozambique with a game-high 28 points while adding 8 rebounds to her account. Meanwhile, Fatma Aouinet, the only Tunisian to score in double figures, finished with 12 points, but getting her fifth foul didn’t make any favour to the North Africans. In Sunday’s last game, Madagascar could have denied hosts Egypt their second win in as many games, but the Pharaohs’ experience and determination made the difference. After a balanced first quarter, Egypt proved too much for the islanders closing the half with a 38-21 lead. Things were much of the same in the second half as the 2014 FIBA U18 Women’s Championships silver medalists controlled the contest until the final whistle. Madagascar’s Christiane Jaofera scored a team-best 14 points, but that wasn’t good enough to avoid their second straight defeat. In the meantime, Meral Abdelgawad did the job for Egypt pouring in a game-high 20 points, while Rana Abdelfattah added 13. 2016 #FIBAU18Africa Women's Day 3 games' Results Mozambique v Tunisia: 55 - 36 Madagascar v Egypt: 49 - 78
