I have the honor of working on Let Girls Learn, a global initiative launched by the President and First Lady to help adolescent girls across the world attain a quality education. For me, the mission of Let Girls Learn is deeply personal. As the daughter of Ethiopian immigrants who came to the U.S. in search of a quality education for themselves and their children, I know that my sister and I would not be where we are today without the educational opportunities we've been afforded. Globally, there are well over #62MillionGirls who are not in school due to complex physical, cultural and financial barriers. Through Let Girls Learn, we are working to raise awareness and to combine diplomacy, grassroots organizing and development expertise to help girls access and complete their education. As we celebrate Women's Equality Day, I am honored to work for @ミシェル・オバマ, a role model for so many women and girls across the world, and proud to be part of a team working to eliminate gender disparities in education, so that millions of girls are empowered to fulfill their boundless potential.
