Un fort séisme de magnitude 6,2 a secoué le centre de la péninsule italienne, mercredi 24 août, vers 3 h 30. La secousse a été ressentie jusqu’à Rome, a rapporté l’Institut américain de géologie, l’USGS. Au moins 18 personnes sont mortes, selon les médias italiens citant des autorités locales. Le chef de la protection civile italienne, Fabrizio Curcio, a cependant refusé lors d’une conférence de presse de donner un bilan officiel, jugeant que c’était encore prématuré.
