Olympic Champion Saskia Bartusiak has announced her retirement from international football. “This decision has been coming for a few months now,” the Germany captain said. “I think that it is the right time for me. My international career is ending with winning a gold medal in the world-famous Maracana while wearing the national team’s shirt.” Bartusiak has had a successful career with Germany, she made her debut in 2007 and went on to earn 101 caps. She became a FIFA Women’s World Cup winner (2007), European Champion (2009 and 2011) and an Olympic Gold medallist (2016). The defender will continue her domestic football career with German club 1.FFC Frankfurt.
