Jeeze, thank’s for continually letting me know what I can and can’t say in my emails to people. Where would I be without frequent updates as to what is acceptable and what is not depending on what personally irritates and/or suits you? At first starting to read this, I asked the writer, in my head— “But what if you actually mean this?”, but quickly the writer lets you know that it doesn’t matter if you mean it because it apparently has been rendered meaningless from overuse. Does this also mean that “Hello” or “How are you doing?” are also meaningless? I’ve heard people say that over the years they have come to learn “How are you doing?” is merely a greeting, and sometimes this may be the case, but in that instance how about you accept the nicety and move along? Is there a crime in continuing the flow of our lives while at the same time being pleasant? If you get an email from me, there is a good chance, either at the start of the email, or the end, that I am going to write “I hope you’re well”. This is because, in the hellscape we live in, I genuinely hope you are well and I have sincere concern for your well-being. In a world of bombings, unrest, injustice, and mental anguish, I really do “Hope you are well”, heck, I don’t even know if I’m going to see you again so I better make it count. I am assuming the writer has a fair amount of people in their life that don’t actually mean this, or possibly the writer is projecting their own insecurities and questioning every well-wish because whoever is drafting the email clearly doesn’t care if they are well, since the writer of this email obviously doesn’t care if someone is well— this must mean everyone is insincere. I exist in opposition to that sentiment, and this article. I will continue “hoping you are well”, and if it suits you, I hope you do the same. If not, also cool with me. #dontstopbeingnice #politenessisnotatrend #hopeyouarewell **10:30 Update** -- I just read this back and it sounds like an angry hobbit wrote this.
