Henrietta Lacks was diagnosed with cervical cancer in a time when poor communities were horrifyingly exploited by hospitals.  A sample from Henrietta's cancer was taken from Johns Hopkins Hospital and found to be a bounty of scientific discovery. The tumor cells multiplied infinitely by the hospital, and used all over the world for medical research. In fact, these cells are still alive today and referred to as "HeLa," and are responsible for innumerable medical advancements.  Tragically, Henrietta never knew the fate of her cells in her lifetime but her family fought tooth and nail to restore her legacy.  This brave, incredible family, their fight for their ancestors, and their commitment to helping others through medical research is truly an inspiration. #wcw
