Some say in photography that timing is everything. Arguably, #JohnDominis' photo of #TommieSmith and #JohnCarlos black power salute at the #MexicoCity Olympics in 1968 is one of the most powerful sports photographs ever taken. This photo tells you so much more than just who won the medals. It tells you about race, courage and selflessness. My wife Lai Ling purchased this image, which was signed by Dr. John Carlos, at a benefit auction at the #NABJ/NAHJ Convention in D.C. yesterday. The timing in the image is perfect, the timing of my wife being able to purchase the photo, the timing to have all this happen during the Olympics, 48 years after the image was taken and the timing to view this as a reminder as to how far we still have to move as a society towards #equality for all Americans.
