Orangutans are smart. They take vegetation such as branches or leaves to shield their heads from the rain. Sometimes they wear the branches or leaves like a hat! Rain can be hard and cold in Borneo. Other times while in a nest orangutans make a second nest above them to protect themselves from the rain or they will use leaves and branches as a type of blanket. It is interesting that orangutans are the only anthropoids (aside from humans) who routinely use vegetation over their heads and bodies to protect themselves from the rain.
