Red Bridge House, East Sussex

This striking contemporary house nestles in a 22 acre site in the East Sussex countryside. The project was a rare opportunity to build a completely new house in a spectacular location, and the architect Piers Smerin indulged the clients with a stripped-back palette of materials, creating a three-storey house that acts as a foil to the surrounding landscape without overpowering it.
