My bed, The Loo, The Maloca, and the showers. ( aka, the river, a bucket and a bar of soap. )
Being in the rainforest made me so aware of the preciousness of our resources. I was no longer 6 thousand miles from the Amazon where I felt disconnected from it , I would be living in it. Granted, only for a week but I became painfully aware of the "disconnectedness" and separation I felt from our planet. From others even. But I am not disconnected. We are all one.
For instance... My toothpaste ( with fluoride ) would be draining straight into the forest. My "Dove" bar soap that I used to wash myself in the river was not organic. -How would the fluoride and chemicals of my soap affect this delicate eco system? My ignorance became acute awareness. It gave me pause. What else do I mindlessly do because it's all I know? Or the way I was raised? How was this ignorance affecting my life? The lives I touch and the planet I live on?
This experience gave me so much to think about. I will forever be changed. Everyday I become more and more awake. - I want to remain awake. I have so much to learn. ??
