Man. This is a long long long way from slummin it in #Pigalles. Those that know me & my go to quip #SmellsLikeAParisianBrothel (usually after I throw down on some buttery garlicky crispetty crunchedy juicidy crab legs ?) then you know that I know from experience. We stayed in a rather quite unsavory 2 (maybe 3?) star "Hotel"(--more emphasis on the "ho" part) when we 1st came to this country. This was for like 3 weeks. Just slumming it. Living show to show check to check having 0 clue if we'd make it for a living. Then a miracle. I never thanked @SoSoBrat for the miracle move she unknowingly pulled that changed our lives. quick version: we were in town doing an appearance w French hip hop crew #IAm on the BIGGEST French late night show called #TaRaTata. Just as their backing band. No one knew or cared who we were. our second album #DoYouWantMore wasn't even out yet. #DaBrat also scheduled on the show was forced to cancel because of a communication mixup about her stage plot & backline---the show didn't allow lyp singing unbeknownst to her) gets funnier---I volunteered our services since #Funkdafied was relatively easy to play....she gave us the once over ("Roots? What y'all from Africa or somethin?") & kinda "psssh Nah I'm good"---walked away (ok yeah on site maybe we did look a lil corny) regardless ---she left a 2 song slot open and literally it changed our life. We played those songs like our life depended on it (it did). And then we doubled down on freestyling and beatboxing from @rahzelthelegend.--boom! in a matter of weeks--every French speaking country we played we sold out to the rafters (to this day it's taken us 20 years to play large houses over 12,000-18,000 in the states---we suddenly found ourselves in #TheOlympia & #LeZenith (the #RadioCity & #MSG of Paris) and word spread QUICK. It saved us from getting dropped. It ensured we'd have a 2nd home for life. Kinda weird being a big attraction 7000 miles away from home & then getting boo'd in your own home town months later (how you like us now #LincolnUniversity class of 95? ?) before I get off course just saying it's really good to come back home to France. Next time we will play. Night!
