House of the Day: Himeji Observatory House by KINO Architects

Completed in 2009 in Japan’s Hyogo Prefecture, this property sits directly northwest of Himeji castle. To create the structure the standard rectangular form was basically cut in two with each half shifted in alternate directions to create a staggered form. A private garden was then designed to occupy the vacant space created.

The walls of the structure were also twisted slightly, allowing a spectacular view of Himeji castle.
