Yes, we are primarily a skateboarding site and skateboarders who run it but we are also human beings and we would be remiss if we didn't say something today about #AltonSterling as Eric and I started this because we have a deep and genuine care for all life. Skateboarders just happen to be the closest ones to us but it most certainly extends to all people of every race, creed, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, socioeconomic status and religion. We like to see people prosper, we mean them well. We do our best to spread positivity and we believe that anything that is truly worthwhile is worth getting done. We also believe that It is certain that the people we love inherit the effects of the civilization, which we have had part in creating, so we have a responsibility for what goes on today because our family and our children will experience it in the future. We believe this. But we cannot stand alone. We have to do it together. Many of you have dealt with the police, you're skaters, it goes with the territory, but today, today you have to be more careful than ever. This man will not hug his kids, kiss his wife, see his family again. You've inevitably seen a friend or another skater mouth off to a cop or run when they pull up to a schoolyard or struggle with a security guard, the skateboard culture irresponsibly has encouraged this type of reaction. It's not longer funny. This isn't a game. You have to be careful. The same thing could happen to you or your friends. We get upset when we see a cop harassing a skateboarder, well, we should be outraged for what happened to this man. He was shot. The video is very clear. He should not have died. We need to find the answer, collectively, intelligently, nonviolently, and we need to put a stop to this type of abuse to all humankind. - sb
