This book is a great intro guide to feminism for men who are probably not super duper on board yet. It goes by an "ABC format", uses humor and non-threatening language (bc unfortunately people get really defensive as you probably know) to help men understand feminism better. And it's got football stuff on the cover for all men's "traditionally masculine" needs. While people (and especially women) shouldn't have to make "nice asks" of men in our lives to get on board w/ equality, I think this can be a useful tool in getting men to understand more and then hopefully make them more likely to then listen to women about these issues. While men should simply listen to what women have been saying about feminism for forever, unfortunately most don't. The fact that it's written by 2 men might even help get around the unfortunate nature of men paying more attention to men talking about feminism than when women talk about it. With the ultimate goal being that men will understand their own biases enough that they'll simply listen more to women about these issues rather than having to hear it from another man. I thought this section on "patriarchy" does a fantastic job of hopefully roping in some folks that don't understand the negative effects of patriarchy not only on women but on men as well. ALSO- Women's voices need to be centered in dismantling patriarchy. If privileged folks are ONLY/MAINLY listening to other privileged folks on issues that effect marginalized communities, we are doing it wrong. Always best to go to those who experience the oppression first-hand. If you are averse to that, this is an example of your privilege and unconscious bias at work. Shoutout to @lafleish for passing this book to me!
