Thaddeus Coates (aka @hippypotter) was in the school library listening to @actuallygrimes when he was hit with a lavender-hued bolt of inspiration. “She had dropped an album, ‘Art Angels,’ which is amazing, and I was listening to ‘Kill V. Maim,’” says the D.C.-area native and artist. Hours later, Thaddeus put the finishing touches on a colorful piece that featured the singer with a miniature crown hovering above her head. It’s just one of the many Grimes-centric works that pop up in hashtags (see: #grimesfanart), artist accounts and even the singer’s own Instagram feed on a daily basis. As Grimes tells @music, “It’s always a wonderful surprise to come across [fan art], and I find myself constantly impressed. I often see fan art that makes me want to improve as an illustrator.” #fangrams
