You don't realize it, but these two are the exclamation point ("!!!!!") at the end of your parents & grandparents soul sentence. Yet they are so rarely celebrated: #Motown staked its claim on soul as a social movement (to me 3 M's defined & shaped black lives in the 60s: Malcolm, Martin & Motown)--so all involved from artists to arrangers to songwriters to producers to musicians and even to the Motown brass themselves were equal billing. #JamesBrown's music revolution was turning his ENTIRE BAND into a giant squad of percussionists ---everyone became an African Drum Tribe Circle: guitars, bass, horns, drums & James---so you couldn't separate James' rhythm section from his horn section they were all small pieces to a bigger puzzle.. But the most successful unsung horn section in soul music was these unlikely two---Andrew Love on the left, Wayne Jackson on the right pka the #MemphisHorns. I mean this is one configuration to me that made a difference in the music they were accompanying. Yes even #Shaft and all its iconia is what it is because of those horn punches---Andrew (who passed 4 years earlier) & Wayne (passed away tonight) were the Paul Revere of the music revolution.
