In the sweltering heat, a man digs silt out from the bottom of a parched village pond in Bundelkhand. His wife carries it on her head to be dumped out of the way. There is very little work available here in rural Uttar Pradesh -- this is a paid job made possible by a government rural employment scheme that guarantees 100 days of paid unskilled work every year. But villagers complain that the program has been corrupted and that the wages for their hard labor often go unpaid. Follow @theworldpost for more.
