? SUMMER READING ? some books that came out recently or are about to come out that I HIGHLY recommend:
• K wait I haven't read Modern Lovers yet but I got it this morning bc my heart is huge for @emmastraub, who's written some of Rookie's finest!
• Another @rookiemag writer who's been with us since day one and has filled our Yearbooks with her wisdom! Amy Rose Spiegel's (@verymuchso) book ACTION is a crucial guide to all things secks, which means not just sex but also love and safety and self-love. It's written with such care and I can open up to just about any page to find something that will make me chortle.
• Writing about acting is usually fruitless! It's so hard to capture or unpack what goes expressed in a performance. Thank goddesses for HER AGAIN, in which @michaelschulman chronicles the education & early roles of Meryl Streep and effectively examines the alchemy of her characters. I loved this book as a tribute to the way real life informs an actor's fictional endeavors and vice versa.
• You can see the cover of HOW TO BE A PERSON IN THE WORLD is kinda GREASY because I carry it around so GD much. So many underlines & quotes texted to friends. Reading Heather Havrilesky's column makes me feel better 100% of the time, even when I don't relate to the situation she's advising on. I am happier and healthier for Ask Polly and for this book's existence!
• My OTHER favorite casual therapist who doesn't know I've made them my very not-casual therapist is @adamjk. This book is interactive and emanates love and laffs. I will be gifting it to everyone for forever!
