#repost @unicef_uk The Government acknowledged the urgency of the situation facing unaccompanied children in the Calais refugee camp. The Government says it has increased the speed at which it is processing their claims to be with their family in the UK, but that is not the reality on the ground for the majority of children. Current estimates from agencies working in ‪#‎Calais say that at the current rate of 3-4 cases processed each week, it will take over a year to process just the 150 cases known cases. A year is a long time in a child's life.

We welcome the Government’s sentiment that the numbers of children being brought to the UK to be with their families will be increasing, and that there will be more of these cases processed within two weeks or less. The Home Office will need to commit more resources to make this a reality, to ensure all the eligible children in Calais can be living safely with their families by September.
