You don’t need us to remind you of the importance of girlfriends.
How many of us have the kind of families who are able to truly see, or understand who you really are. How many of us know what it is to be lonely in a crowded room?
Romantic relationships can fulfill a part of us, though there are sides of us that the men in our lives are never going to quite get in the way that our girlfriends do.
Good girlfriends are those who love you warts and all, they are a constant, they reflect back to us ourselves, minus the self-doubts we lug around within-they see what we’re capable of and wish for us to shine and accept the shadows too. Knowing they’ll be there when the shit hits the fan, knowing that she/they also spot that ‘elephant in the room’ and don’t pretend it’s not there can be the difference between feeling crazy, and feeling that all is exactly how it should be..
