For Kelly Geddes (@kelly_geddes), photography started off as a family affair. "My mother, Anne Geddes, is a photographer," she says. "My sister and I grew up living above her studio. I would often come home from school and mum would be shooting, so the studio environment has always felt natural to me." The Australia native (she was born in Melbourne but currently lives in Sydney) has since left living above her mother's studio, but she hasn't put down the camera. Kelly, who describes her work as "sensitive, passionate, and artistic," is perhaps at her best when shooting portraits, many of which you can see on her Instagram. Kelly's favorite female photographers span the history of the art form, with the 29-year-old citing Eve Arnold, Linda McCartney, and Cass Bird among those she admires the most. To Kelly, #GirlGaze "has really provided a unique and supportive platform for female photographers to showcase their work. It’s giving voice to a lot of photographers who may otherwise go unnoticed." Though her proudest accomplishment is "taking the plunge to go freelance," her ambitions don't stop there. "I would love to continue to photograph people, different cultures, and places that inspire me. To create a body of work that tells a story and resonates with people," she says. "I’d also love to document backstage at some of the Haute Couture shows in Paris." - words by @hannamariehoward. This story is part of the @girlgazeproject, celebrating the next generation of female photographers. Submit your photos using #GirlGaze and you could be featured in Teen Vogue!
