The North Cascades are known as being some of the most wild and rugged mountains in the contiguous United States. You can drive the North Cascades highway and get a taste of this national park's wonders, but the most spectacular views of peaks and glaciers require the effort of hiking and climbing high into the alpine. And on occasion, you can climb through and above the lower cloud layer for a truly incredible experience, as I had above.
