You know how they say, "Never meet your heroes?" Well, sometimes you do, and sometimes they are every bit as awesome as you'd hoped they'd be, proving old adages wrong.

@paulnicklen is one of my very favorite photographers. His work documenting our planet, as a conservationist and a @ナショナルジオグラフィック fellow (nbd) is awe-inspiring.

When I first saw Paul's photos of Kermode Bears, or "spirit bears," as they are called in the PNW, I was blown away. They are actually a subspecies of black bear, and are not albinos, but instead are white because of a recessive gene. His image of a snow white mama bear, and her two jet black cubs snacking on crab apples might be my very favorite.

Paul has said that photographing these stunning creatures in their habitat is one of the most profound experiences in all the ones he's catalogued as a nature photographer. His love for the world is palpable in his images. He reminds me to be passionate about conserving our planet, because it's actually the most magical place.

Today I got to hang with Paul, and see one of his Kermode bear images blown up to such a size that the detail took my breath away. Follow him, and be likewise blown away every day forever. #Telluthere2016
