The San people are our oldest human ancestors -- direct descendants of the first Homo sapiens. They’ve lived a largely nomadic lifestyle in Southern #African nations for around 20,000 years. But today their culture and traditions are at risk. The #Botswana government has moved the San, or Basarwa as they’re called locally, from a game reserve to a resettlement village. The relocation is ostensibly to protect the reserve and integrate the community into mainstream society, but it means passing on age-old traditions has become harder and harder. Still, hope is not lost, and some San are doing whatever they can to preserve their heritage, from guiding walks around important sites to reviving traditional art. (via @cnnafrica)
